You're still getting better fame holding the hall, than running an iway... that should be a no brainer.
|
as to your "getting better fame holding the Hall" comment... not really. maybe after you hold it 10 times in a row, it might start getting better. but for the most part getting fame for holding Hall is no different than getting fame from any other map.
i've won in HoH many times. i started using IWAY simply because short of having a Guild with lots of great players online, it's the fastest way to get into a party that will probably be marginally successful. sure i could wait for good players to assemble, which often takes upwards of an hour. or sometimes two. then all us good players could do one run, maybe even win HoH and earn a "whopping" 6 or 8 fame for that. it's a huge time investment, with very little tangible return on that investment.
or, i could join any random IWAY party in 2 minutes flat and end up getting the same amount of fame within 20 minutes.

Actually...Holding halls is more fame...If you go through 75% of the maps and get to halls it's better, but if you skip from Uw->Vault/Halls then...Of course you won't get good fame. Yet, you can't get 40 fame from 1 normal win.

IWAY is not a great build that unbalances the game, it is just an solid build that is easy to run. You only need 2 clases to do so (W/R and Necros) and with 6 wars its very hard to lose just because one of them made a mistake so it's noob-friendly.
There are good and bad teams/players running it but that is true with every build.
Fact is IWAY is definitly NOT better then dual smite / ranger spike and other atm dominant builds but its just a very easy build to play and it way very good when it came up because noone was ready for it.
Same is with smite.
Same will be with ranger spikers probably.
Soon people will find a way to neutralize them and make a counter-build.
The one that will not be able to will cry for a nerf.

I think, personally, that you people just like to swing the nerf bat around.
Next thing you know, you people will complain about Ether feast because it drains energy AND heals!
/end sarcasm
But seriously, I haven't ever had problems with IWAY teams. Especially since I take my own kind of group into arenas. 8-man ranger teams w/ pets. Fun.

IWAY isn't designed to hold the altar. Its designed to farm fame from the first few maps - Underworld, Burial Mounds and maybe further.

IWAY is just a fun build. I know i don't get too far with it (furthest is probly Unholy Temples), but I love seeing 6-7 Warriors bashing the crap out of an enemy, so funny :P

that's not true. the reason you have seen the shift to other builds is b/c 1-2 builds dominated hoh and gvg. now we are seeing an increase in different builds b/c of the changes.
if you make a change you change something else w/o knowing it. anet cannot predict how changes will really affect the game till players get ahold of it.
by that time it catches like wildfire and is everywhere with in days. changes are good b/c they make you think up new strategies to keep the game fresh.

This isn't one of those things that needs to be nerfed though. It may be common and rampant, but it's not overpowered.

I look at it as 'noobish' for the following reason:
It's not a build that is designed to win/hold the hall. So you're basically saying.. I wasn't going to get there anyway, so I'm going to run this build that's easy to run that might let me beat teams with a 'gimmick' that they may have not planned for.
So it's more of a fame farming (and not particularly good at it either) build that you're running because you figure you can't win the hall anyway. That sounds noobish to me.
When it first came out, it was blowing people away and you could get to the hall with it, and win.. but those days are over really. You can still get there with a well setup iway team with good players, but there are still other builds far superior for holding it. So if you're a decent player with aspirations of winning/holding the hall.. it's really not a build you want to use.

UDA made the build with 2 heal monks , 1 necro and rest was w/r. we went to halls won 3 times then got beaten. next day everyone did iway. we used healers + necro tho because necro isnt always dependable since once he's down there goes the healing . most people use 1 necro and rest W/R for the DPS

Have you played against Microsoft Excel's Team yet?
They hold the hall a few times a day and running an awesome IWAY build. Sure, you can't hold the hall as long as you could with spirit spam, but his team gets 5-6 wins in the hall nearly every run.
Just because IWAY is easy to play doesn't mean that is a 'noobish' build. You can win HoH and you can hold the hall with it. It's just different than you would be with for example a ranger spike...

it's a "noobish" build because it requires no skill. You run in and hack and slash the other team until three or more of your allies die and then you slam IWAY and hack and slash some more.

coupling shadow of fear with Spiteful Spirit is a nice way to take out IWAY teams with the quickness.

lol good old iway. my usual gang in tombs rips thru iway quite easilly. the other day tho my group was already sleeping and one of my other friends invited me into an iway group. we couldnt take the hall with it, but that was about it. i was expecting to get owned since we owned so many iway teams already, but this was not the case. we farmed plenty of fame with it, just couldnt beat the fabulous 8 in HoH.

If you guys saw it the next day, then I think you copied. The transformers were running it for a few days before they saw it copied (except for IQ who got beat by it a few times.. then started using it later in the day).
But it's nothing real complicated, it was probably 'invented' by a few different guilds.
